Architecture
Architecture is a unique blend of design and physics. People in this field are responsible for designing and constructing buildings and facilities used by people all over the world.
Do you find yourself constantly admiring buildings, structures and landmarks? Architecture may be the field for you. As an architect you will design buildings and other spaces to be both practical and aesthetically pleasing.
A working knowledge and understanding of physics and design are used on a daily basis by architects as they work to meet the needs of people. After a structure is designed, architects draft the final construction and manage the actual construction.
Most architects are detail-oriented, good managers and work well with people. To start a career in architecture, students attend an architecture school or enroll in a program, do internships and become certified by taking the Architect Registration Examination.
There are lots of branches of architecture including design architects, project architects, project managers, construction administrators and draftspersons.
Job opportunities in the architecture industry are about the same as other occupations. The need for architects goes up and down with the economy and sometimes job availability depends heavily on the economy. This field is also very competitive but internships can give you a head start and make you more competitive for entry-level jobs. Compensation can range anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000 depending on the area of focus.
Careers
Aerospace Engineers
Aerospace engineers design and develop everything from commercial airplanes to fighter jets and missiles.

Architects, Except Landscape and Naval
Architects have the interesting job of designing and overseeing the construction of buildings, parks and even communities.
Architectural and Civil Drafters
Architectural and civil drafters make the drawings and plans needed to make things like buildings, appliances, machines and toys.
Cartographers and Photogrammetrists
If you are a natural with maps, why not prepare to become a cartographer or photogrammetrist? Working with computers, surveys and photographs you will create digital and graphic maps.
Drafters, All Other
There are several different kinds of drafters but one thing they all have in common: the chance to mix their artistic, technical and engineering skills to make drawings and plans for construction workers.
Electronics Engineers, Except Computer
These electronics engineers research, design and develop electronic components.
Environmental Engineering Technicians
Environmental engineering technicians use their knowledge of the environment and engineering to help control and prevent pollution.
Environmental Engineers
Environmental engineers help prevent pollution to keep the environment clean.
Fire-Prevention and Protection Engineers
Fire-prevention and protection engineers find new ways to protect buildings from fires and even figure out what causes fires.
