Cardiovascular Technologists and Technicians

Cardiovascular technologists and technicians perform tests and procedures on patients.

Cardiovascular technologists and technicians do tests on cardiovascular or pulmonary systems so they can diagnose problems and diseases. Sometimes they conduct or help with cardiac catheterizations, electrocardiograms and lung capacity and pulmonary-functions tests.

Other duties of people with this job include monitoring patients’ blood pressure and heart rate, preparing them for tests and informing them of procedures. They also read gauges, video screens and recorders, record medical histories and test results, maintain cardiology equipment and more.

With this job, you will work a lot with other people, whether they be coworkers, supervisors or patients. You will work in a medical setting with equipment and health records.

As a cardiovascular technologist or technician you will use things like pacemakers, cardioscopes, ultrasound equipment, cardiovascular implants and diagnostic catheters on a daily basis.

To be successful in this job you will need an associate’s degree. An education program will teach you all you need to know about computers, electronics, education, customer service, medicine, dentistry, math, psychology and biology.

Job opportunities for cardiovascular technologists and technicians are expected to grow quickly. The average hourly wage for people with this job is about $22 and the average annual income is about $47,000.
