Carpenters

Carpenters work on things like bridges, roads, furniture and cabinets. They build the things people everywhere use every day and make repairs to broke pieces.

Do you like working with your hands? Are you looking for a career where you get to see your work transform into works of art? Then carpentry is what you are looking for.

Carpenters build and fix things and parts made of wood. They work on a variety of of things from roads and bridges to cabinets and furniture. Some carpenters specialize in certain areas like homes or furniture.

As a carpenter, you will read blueprints, take measurements, cut wood, fiberglass and drywall, sand wood and attach pieces. You will use tools like screwdrivers, saws, drills, sanders and hammers on a daily basis.

But, carpentry is not all about building things. Some carpenters install windows and doors, fix broken furniture and even install machines.

If you are good at math and doing things with your hands you are probably a good candidate for a career in carpentry.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment opportunities for carpenters will be good. The average hourly wage for carpenters is about $18 but some make more than $33 an hour.
