Choreographers

Choreographers think creatively to and produce dance performances for television, theater and special events.

Choreographers are the people behind dance performances who create routines, teach classes and direct stage movements.

Usually choreographers create dances for companies, individual performers, operas, television shows, special events, fashion shows or musical theater productions.

Duties of choreographers include managing rehearsals, teaching dance techniques, choosing music, overseeing auditions and helping performers train.

People who are successful with this job are usually good at teaching, giving directions, critical thinking, decision making, managing resources and people, listening and creative thinking.

As a choreographer much of your time will be spent in a studio or on a stage and working with other people. You will help performers prepare for a production, teach classes and work with music technicians and stage hands.

To really make it big as a choreographer, you will need a bachelor’s degree. An educational program will teach you all you need to know about fine arts, sociology, anthropology, psychology, history, communications, media and education and training.

The average hourly wage for people with this job is about $18 and the average annual income is about $38,000.
