Control and valve installers and repairers fix, install and maintain mechanical regulating and controlling equipment.

Control and valve installers and repairers repair, maintain and install things like gas regulators, safety and flow valves and other mechanical regulating and controlling devices.

They are sometimes known as valve technicians, electric meter technicians, instrument technicians, control valve technicians and maintenance technicians, among other titles.

With this job you will keep maintenance records, turn meters on and off, connect regulators, fix mechanical control devices, turn valves to expel certain amounts of gas and report dangerous situations in the field as well as missing meters.

You will use tools like saws, screwdrivers, impact wrenches, taps, dies, slip-joint pliers and pressure indicators. You will also use computer software including spreadsheet, analytical, scientific, project management and data base use interface and query software.

Control and valve installers and repairers are usually good at installing equipment, learning, critical thinking, managing time, troubleshooting, communicating and reasoning.

To land a good job in this field, you will need an associate’s degree. An educational program will teach you all about public safety, security and mechanics.

The average hourly wage for control valve installers and repairers is about $22 and the average annual income is about $47,000.
