BS in Human Services/Child and Family Welfare
The Bachelor of Science in Human Services with an emphasis in Child and Family Welfare deals with the complex challenges facing children and families in today's society.
Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Human Services program are poised to cultivate the important knowledge and skills needed to to pursue a rewarding career in many helping professions. With the goal of helping those who are unable to help themselves, students learn to cultivate their talents, assess clients’ needs, identify community resources, problem solve and advocate for their client, while developing intervention strategies to lead this part of the population to success.
Through a study of public and private policy that impacts the daily operations of human service agencies, students learn how to intervene on behalf of their clients. Consistent with the Council of Standards in Human Service Education’s curriculum standards, this program helps students to develop and apply critical thinking skills, identify, plan, and utilize resources to improve client situations, respect the importance of culture, gender, diversity, and global perspectives when working with clients, and utilize information and systems to appropriately manage and deliver human services.
The Child and Family Welfare emphasis deals with the complex challenges facing children and families in today’s society. While working with children and families, graduates are prepared to assess, evaluate, intervene, and re-evaluate social structures, such as adoption, foster care, child protection, and reunification.
Graduates of the Bachelor of Science in Human Services program are prepared to make an impact on people’s lives within such areas of human service as mental health, social services, education, rehabilitation, group and community work, nursing homes, court systems, and public policy. Graduates can qualify for career opportunities as a case manager, human services administrator, adult services worker, child welfare worker, program officer, and elderly services provider.
