BS in Psychology/Substance Abuse

With the BS in Psychology with an Emphasis in Substance Abuse, graduates can work with youth and adults in abuse treatment programs and public health program initiatives.

There is an increased demand for psychology services in America due to factors such as depression, mental disorders, marriage and family problems, job stress, addiction, and a growing elderly population. While practicing as a psychologist requires a doctoral degree, graduates possessing a bachelor’s degree in psychology develop skills necessary to qualify for entry-level jobs in community mental health centers, vocational rehabilitation centers, and correctional programs.

Kaplan University’s Bachelor of Science in Psychology program provides an in-depth look at psychology as it relates to daily life. Students learn to examine the major concepts, values, theories, studies, research methods, and historical trends in psychology as they apply to human behavior, learning, and development; cultivate a deeper understanding of psychological theory and methodology; study diversity and the cultural conditions that motivate people; utilize the scientific approach to evaluate behavior and mental processes relating to personal, social, and organizational issues.

The Substance Abuse emphasis provides opportunities for students to establish the risks with substance abuse and explore strategies for prevention, evaluation, and treatment. Students within this emphasis gain experience and insights to prepare them for careers working with youth and adults in clinical and educational settings, and opportunities in abuse treatment programs and public health program initiatives.

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology program at Kaplan University provides students the choice to to complete an accelerated Bachelor of Science in Psychology-to-Master of Science in Psychology option. Students benefit from completion of their degrees at a faster pace and lower cost than completing each degree separately.
