Social Services

A social services program will train you to become a social worker so you can help people on a daily basis.

There are several types of social workers including child and family social workers, medical and public health social workers and mental health social workers. Social work is done both on a one-one-one basis as well as through social advocacy settings through classes or workshops. Government social workers make an average of $46,330 annually according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. There is a growing demand for social workers as social issues continue to plague our nation. According to the Center for Disease Control, 435,427 births occurred to mothers aged 15-19 years in 2006 and at least one report of child abuse is made every ten seconds. Knowing these sobering statistics, it is no surprise that the demand for professionally trained social workers will grow by 22 percent in the next decade. If you have a passion for social service and want a job that will help make America’s families stronger, look into social services.
