Court Reporting: The Right Side of the Law.

What does a court reporter do?

Short Answer: They hang on every word you say.

Long Answer: Court reporters create verbatim transcripts of speeches, conversations, legal proceedings, meetings, and other events through a special language (not not Klingon), it is called stenography.

Stenography is a system of symbols that represent words, sounds and phrases that can capture speech faster than typing regular letters can. It’s like how my nephew asks for chinuggets instead of chicken nuggets. The symbols are then translated into regular text through a stenotype machine or computer. Criminal Justice is a sexy field. It is exciting and important. How else could Hollywood make so many TV shows about it if it weren’t inherently interesting? Whether it is CSI or Law and Order almost everyone has said “I would like to do that,” from the comfort of the own couch at least once. Well all your armchair detectives: it’s time to go for it. Criminal justice careers are growing. And when I say “growing” I mean it.

Computer Forensics: Donut-Eating Cops turn to Cookies to solve Crime.

The stereotype that all cops love donuts is about to get turned on its head. It’s all about cookies these days. I’m not talking about the chocolate chip variety though, I’m talking about internet cookies. An internet “cookie,” is a piece of text that a Web server can store on a user’s hard disk. Cookies allow a Web site to store information on a user’s machine and later retrieve it.

What is Computer Forensics?

These digital files are a new tool in the arsenal of cops and criminal investigators everywhere. This branch of the criminal justice industry is known as “Computer Forensics” and it focuses on evidence pertaining to crimes that is found through digital files. Digital evidence can take the form of an email, photo,disk, fax or a cell phone record.
