Agricultural Workers, All Other

There are several areas of expertise agricultural workers go into that allow them to work with crops and plants, farming equipment or animals.

Agricultural workers have the important job of getting agricultural products to consumers. They plant and harvest crops, irrigate and work with animals at farms, ranches, nurseries or slaughterhouses.

Most agricultural workers specialize in crops and plants and work at farms, nurseries or greenhouses. They plant things, irrigate, prune, pack and prepare grains, vegetables, fruits, fiber, trees and other plants for shipping.

Some agricultural workers are equipment operators and use tractors, fertilizers, raking equipment, haybines, combines, balers, threshers, trucks and more.

Farm and ranch workers attend to cattle, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, horses, fish and bees that are raised to supply products for consumers. You will feed, herd, weigh, load and milk animals so people across the country can benefit from their products. Breeders raise animals for either production purposes or for pets. They learn about the breeding history of animals and keep records to ensure the best products are being produced or the animals are bred with qualities that make them good pets.

Some benefits of this job include a flexible schedule, the ability to work outside and the possibility of moving frequently as determined by crop seasons.

To become an agricultural worker you will most likely learn the skills you need on-site as you begin working. If you are more interested in becoming an animal breeder, you will probably need work experience and a college degree can help you land that perfect job.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts there will be a large number of agricultural worker jobs available. The average wage of agricultural workers, in all areas of expertise, is about $10.94 an hour.
