Boilermakers

Boilermakers build and repair steam boilers using power tools and hand tools.

Boilermakers, also known as boilermaker mechanics, service technicians, boiler technicians, boilermaker pipe fitters and boilermaker welders put together, maintain and repair stationary steam boilers and boiler house auxiliaries.

They read blueprints and use power tools and wedges to build boilers. They also test vessels, clean boilers and boiler furnaces and repair fittings.

As a boilermaker you will use hammers, hoists, levels, punches and welding tools on a daily basis as you examine and repair boilers, put parts together, install manholes, tubes and gauges and reshape bent parts.

To do well with this career you will need to be able to work well with your hands, be a good reasoner and troubleshooter and be good at decision making.

Job opportunities for boilermakers are expected to increase quickly. The average hourly wage for people with this job is about $25 and the average annual income is about $52,000.
