City and regional planning aides assist city planners by gathering information, informing the public, inspecting sites, communicating between departments and more.
If you are detail oriented, like to organize things and have a mind for planning, you would probably make a great city and regional planning aid. With this job you will get to put your planning, problem solving and decision making skills to the test as you assist city planners.
The main duty of city and regional planning aides is to gather data from maps, investigations and reports and compile it in preparation to be used in planning studies.
With this job, you will use statistics, graphs and charts to portray information about land use, zoning and population. You will also help with permits and applications, educate the public about projects, review project sites, act as the liaison between departments, keep records, maps and databases and gather information regarding housing, zoning and traffic flow.
This job requires critical thinking, time management, communication, listening and reasoning skills.
To be successful as a city and regional planning aid, you will need a bachelor’s degree and a working knowledge of things like law and government, geography, design, math, transportation, construction, personal service, administration, management and computers and electronics.
