Claims adjusters, examiners and investigators review insurance claims and ensure payments are made.

Claims adjusters, examiners and investigators are responsible for making sure payments have been made according to settled insurance claims. They report underpayments, over payments and other issues and sometimes they work with legal counsels.

With this job, you could have a title like claims examiner, claims manager, claims specialist claims adjuster, claims representative, claims supervisor, litigation examiner, claims analyst or home office claim specialist.

If you are a good reader, communicator, negotiator, listener, critical thinker and decision maker, you would probably do well in this field.

As a claims adjuster, examiner or investigator, you will pay and process claims, resolve complicated claims, present cases to claim committees, communicate with doctors and medical specialists, keep records, verify data and more.

To really do well with this job, you will need an associate’s degree. An educational program will teach you all about personal service, clerical skills, math, computers, electronics and law and government.
