Clergy members offer spiritual advice, perform religious ordinances and teach congregations.

Looking for a career where you get to serve people every day and make a difference in lives and communities? Then you would probably enjoy being a member of the clergy.

Clergy conduct worship services, give people spiritual guidance and take care of spiritual duties for a specific denomination.

People in this field are sometimes known as pastors, priests, ministers, confessors, rectors, children’s ministers, children’s pastors or college chaplains.

With this career you will promote spirituality, pray, give sermons, teach about religion, advise people about spiritual matters, offer support and comfort, train church leaders and administer religious ordinances or rites.

People who do well in the clergy are good communicators, listeners, decision makers, teachers, managers and reasoners.

Some duties of people in this field include creating and maintaining relationships, thinking creatively, teaching, solving problems, negotiating, building teams and caring for others.

To do well as a member of the clergy, you will need a master’s degree and maybe even a Ph.D., M.D. or J.D.

Job opportunities in this field are expected to increase. The average hourly wage for clergy is about $20 and the average annual income is about $41,000.
