
The idea that every hardworking man and woman can succeed in America is losing some steam in this brutal recession but the American spirit is as as true blue as ever.
Actually, it might be more appropriate to describe the American spirit as yellow. Lemon yellow. Historically, Americans are famous for turning lemons into lemonade.
Colonial settlers took ragged land and transformed it into crops.
Oppressed minorities fought to make their voices heard and secured equality for the generations that came after them.
And the list goes on and on. Our problem know isn’t the rugged terrain or segregation, it is a failing economy and record unemployment.
So where is our American Spirit now? How do we transcend our problems and make the best of a less than perfect situation?
Go back to School.
It’s easy to have faith in yourself and have discipline when you’re a winner, when you’re number one. What you got to have is faith and discipline when you’re not a winner.
Unemployment has now become back-to-school season for American citizens.
Online Education has seen increased enrollment rates as workers take courses to further their education and sharpen their skills.
Online Education providers like Capella University and Grand Canyon University have seen their enrollment rates increase at rates of 20 percent and 62 percent respectively.
The “college student” stereotype is changing. The dorm-dwelling twentysomethings of the past are being replaced by the laid-off baby boomers. Online degrees often prove to be more cost-effective, in terms of saving money on fuel and books.
So when the economy knocks you down, dust yourself off and hit those books!
