Things to Do When You’re Single in College on Valentine’s Day

If you’re a college student flying solo on Valentine’s Day, today’s back to school tip includes 10 suggestions for what to do on February 14th.

  1. Eat your heart out, baby. Literally. This edible bleeding heart from Lily Vanilli is made from a red sponge cake, cream cheese frosting, and cherry and blackcurrant, well, blood. Could you stomach it?
  2. Have a single’s day weekend with your single friends, like MissYeung. There will be a sleepover, swimming, and lots of eating. And working out.
  3. Take a bat to a heart shaped pinata, a la Jennifer Garner in Valentine’s Day. It may give you a great sense of satisfaction.
  4. Treat yourself to a massage, spa visit, or that great new restaurant you’ve been dying to try. Just be prepared to see a horde of masses whispering sweet nothings.
  5. Drink up! As GameofJenga said on Tumblr, vodka will be my Valentine.
  6. Throw a party! Chances are you know a handful of other single people, so bring them together for a great party at your bachelor pad. You can make it a potluck BYOB to keep the costs down.
  7. Hit the gym or the slopes. Get out your aggression the healthy way and enjoy some endorphins in the process.
  8. Make it a GNO. Also known as the Girl’s Night Out, this is a great way to bond with your girlfriends. Grab dinner together, order the double chocolate cake (calories should not count today) and then go see an action flick.
  9. Have a movie marathon. Grab a friend and turn on your favorite comedies. Laughter is good medicine, indeed. A good alternative? The horror genre. Take your pick!
  10. Embrace your singleness. Just think — you didn’t have to hunt around for a Valentine’s Day gift. You have your independence, freedom, autonomy, and you can do what you want, when you want, whenever you like. Unfortunately, not all couples are happy. It’s better to be happy and single than unhappy and coupled.

At the end of the day, remember this: February 14 is just another Monday.
